Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL
The Research Center of Excellence will be a component of the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) located within the Department of Neurology. Both the ADRC and the State of Florida’s Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative Memory Disorder Clinic comprise key projects associated with the Behavior Neurology Clinical Practice. On the Mayo Clinic campus in Florida, there are currently 25 neurologists, Fellows and 14 residents in the Department of Neurology. Department dedicated space includes both shared and private offices for physicians, examination rooms for patient care, two procedure rooms, dedicated work and collaborative space for residents and fellows and space for clinical research activities such as consenting, neuropsychological assessments and patient education/counseling. Counseling for patients and their families is provided and those affected by LBD are provided crucial information on this disease. Once a month, we provide a caregiver education and support group program that is well attended and includes a guest speaker to lead a discussion and provide information and guidance regarding dementia and caregiving. Several times a year, Mayo, in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association, and other agencies sponsors conferences and symposiums providing updates and information to help patients, caregivers and professional care providers understand and manage challenging behaviors typically associated with neurodegenerative dementias, including LBD.
