LBDA Volunteer Selected for Federal Advisory Council

We are delighted to announce that LBDA’s nominee to the federal Advisory Council on Alzheimer’s Research, Care and Services, Helen Bundy Medsger, has been appointed to the Council. LBDA applauds the decision by Secretary Xavier Becerra, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, for ensuring that the ‘related dementias’ are represented on the Council. The National Alzheimer’s Plan, for which the Council provides oversight, is also inclusive of Lewy body, vascular, frontotemporal and mixed dementias.

A long-time volunteer with LBDA, Helen has turned her personal experience as an LBD caregiver into a remarkable array of accomplishments. She not only facilitates an LBD support group for LBDA, but also volunteers for the Brain Support Network, and has consulted for the Care Ecosystem study at the UCSF Memory & Aging Center, where she also serves as a member of the Family Advisory Council.

Helen is also involved with the Global Brain Health Institute, advising Atlantic Fellows as future leaders on dementia work. Her experience working in peer-to-peer volunteer networks for family supports is well-respected and she is currently advising in Ireland on the adoption of LBD-specific support models.

Congratulations, Helen!
