It’s Just Different: Understanding the Unique Challenges and Needs of the LBD Care Partner

Join us for an insightful and supportive webinar designed for those who are caring for loved ones with Lewy body dementia (LBD).  This session will delve into the unique challenges and experiences faced by care partners on individuals with LBD, a complex and often misdiagnosed disease. 

Topics include: 

  • Understanding Lewy Body Dementia:  Learn about the symptoms, progression and how LBD differs from other types of dementia. 
  • Care Partner Challenges:  Explore the emotional, physical and practical challenges faced by care partners and strategies to manage them. 
  • Support Systems:  Discover resources and support networks available to care partners, including local and online communities. 
  • Self-Care for Care Partners: Gain insights into maintaining your own well-being while providing care, including stress management techniques and self-care practices. 

About Brandi Hackett, LCSW, C-ASWCM 

Brandi Hackett is a licensed clinical social worker and Senior Manager of Support Services for the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA). She supports individuals diagnosed or symptomatic, current and former care partners, and LBDA volunteers. The emotional processing of hard feelings has been part of her role as a medical social worker for the last 20 years. Brandi is published for her article on “Compassion Fatigue” in the Journal for Certified Senior Advisors and has taught multiple classes for the LBD community as well classes for allied health professionals on dementia sensitivities, LBD awareness, and community resources. 

About Julia Wood, MOT, OTR/L 

Julia Wood, MOT, OTR/L, is an occupational therapist specializing in assessment and treatment of people with Parkinson’s disease and related dementias.  Julia is currently the Director of Professional & Community Education at the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA).  She has served as faculty for the Parkinson’s Foundation Team Training for Parkinson’s program since 2016, certification and training faculty for the LSVT BIG® program since 2018 and served on the Parkinson’s Foundation Rehabilitation Task Force since 2021.  She co-authored the first American Occupational Therapy Association Practice Guideline for Adults with Parkinson’s Disease in 2022 and serves on the Comprehensive Care Subcommittee for the World Parkinson’s Congress (WPC) and serves on the Board of Directors for the International Neuropalliative Care Society.
