Rolling with the Challenges: Using DICE™ to Manage Neuropsychiatric Symptoms in LBD

June 9 @ 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm EDT

Neuropsychiatric symptoms in Lewy body dementia (LBD)—such as hallucinations, delusions, and agitation—can be challenging for care partners and clinicians alike. The DICE method™ (Describe, Investigate, Create, and Evaluate) offers a structured, problem-solving approach to managing these symptoms safely and effectively.

Julia Wood, MOT, OTR/L, LBDA’s Director of Professional & Community Education, will guide you through the four steps of the DICE method™, helping care partners and healthcare providers recognize patterns, identify underlying causes, and develop tailored interventions that reduce distress and improve quality of life.

Learn how the DICE method™ empowers families to collaborate with clinicians, advocate for appropriate treatments, and minimize the risks associated with contraindicated medications. Join us to gain practical insights, real-world strategies, and a supportive framework for navigating neuropsychiatric symptoms in LBD with confidence.

Key takeaways:

  1. Structured Approach to Symptom Management – The DICE method™ provides a step-by-step framework (Describe, Investigate, Create, Evaluate) to assess and address neuropsychiatric symptoms in LBD, helping care partners and clinicians develop safer, individualized interventions.
  2. Reducing Harmful Medication Use – By using the DICE method™, families and healthcare providers can identify non-drug strategies and advocate for appropriate treatments, minimizing the risk of contraindicated medications like antipsychotics that can worsen LBD symptoms.
  3. Empowering Care Partners in Decision-Making – The DICE method™ fosters collaboration between caregivers and clinicians, equipping families with practical tools to communicate symptom changes, advocate for effective care, and enhance the quality of life for their loved ones with LBD.
