Post Cold medication
I just got a call from the facility...Tony has a cold...what can he take...I know that benadryl is out of the question. He has mucinex in the med cart but it is a big pill....unlikely he will take it. Any suggestions....How about plain robitussin...with no DM? His doc is oot.

Robitussin and Mucinex have the same key ingredient -- guaifenesin. So the Robitussin for cough should be helpful. As for nasal congestion, a plain saline spray up the nostril can help (you can find it at the drug store). Good luck!

Mucinex (guaifenesin) comes in liquid form. Some brands have this as a cherry-flavored syrup.

Loratadine (generic Claritan) can be helpful as well.

And, by the way, I don't think there's anything wrong with DM. Personally, I don't like mixing meds in one thing. For example, I don't take Nyquil -- I'd rather take Tylenol and Benadryl (this is for myself....presumably a normal person) separately. If you are of the same philosophy, you can give Delsym cough syrup as this contains DM.
