Post Help! - Needs toilet but won't get out of bed!
How do we persuade Mum to get out of bed BEFORE she is absolutely desperate to urinate! Both myself, and her PA have tried everything we can think of - and since (between us) - we are with her 24 hrs a day, seem to be spending most of our time waiting for a 'panic'! She needs our assistance for the transfer, but obviously we can't 'MAKE' her move!!
She would be absolutely distraught if she had an 'accident', but tells us she needs to go, and then won't get out of bed for an hour or so!
Although this has happened, occasionally, in the past, recently it is every time.
The other night I spent most of the night 'waiting' while watching her wriggle around in discomfort, which in itself is upsetting for everyone.
There has been no change in Meds, and she is not incontinent.
Has anyone got any ideas, please? Thanks :?:

You didn't mention if she gets out of bed for any other reasons, such as meals, but if she does then I suggest putting her on a toileting schedule so that you proactively take her to the restroom at routine times throughout the day. That will minimize her discomfort and your concerns about an accident.

Incontinence can begin even in early LBD, so it's never too late to be prepared. If she is becoming too confused to know when she needs to use the restroom, then you may want to be prepared for an accident by purchasing some incontinence supplies in advance. You may even ask if she might wear protective briefs as a precaution.

Here are some resources that may be of help:
