Post subject:  New support group focused on persons with LBD

We are excited to announce the start of a new support group which will be focused on providing mutual support for persons living with Lewy Body Dementia.

The first meeting of the Twin Cities Support Group for Persons with Lewy Body Dementia will be a "Meet and Greet" event on Wednesday, August 16 from 10:15 to 11:15am. The event will be held at Lyngblomsten in the Community Room, 1415 Almond Ave, St Paul. Persons in the early stages of LBD who would benefit from communicating with others about living with this disease are welcome to attend. Caregivers are also invited, and those persons needing assistance should be accompanied by a caregiver. Caregivers will meet in a separate area of the same room once the support group sessions start - the "Meet and Greet" will be a mixed event.

Paula Biever and Jeanne Schwietz will be the facilitators for the support group. Paula and her husband Erik have been the facilitators of the MN E Metro LBD Caregiver Support Group since 2012. Jeanne was one of the founding members of that support group which was started in 2006. Paula’s father and Jeanne’s mother both had Lewy Body Dementia. Paula is also a volunteer with the LBD Association’s Caregiver Linkline and a member of the Roseville Alz/Dementia Community Action Team. Others who wish to volunteer to help at these meetings are most welcome.

Parking is available in the outer area of the parking lot on Almond Ave. Persons can be dropped off, while you are parking, at the front entrance which has a large area with an overhang for this purpose. Take the elevator that is furthest to the right from the reception area (across from the bird cage) and go to level B - then follow the hallway to the Community Room. Another option is to park on Pascal Street and walk between the two apartment buildings, through the white trellis, and take the large door on the left which goes directly to the Community Room. This door is not open during the winter, but is available while the weather is nice.

Future meetings will be held from 10:30 to noon on the first Wednesday of the month in this same location, except for November and December of this year, when the location will be in the Heritage building next door - detailed information will be sent out closer to meeting time.

Please contact Paula Biever at 651-641-0130 for more information about the group. You can also contact Lyngblomsten for directions at 651-646-2941. Here is a link to a map with driving directions: http://www.lyngblomsten.org/contact/map-directions/

We are very grateful to the 2nd Half with Lyngblomsten for hosting our support group.
