Post Palliative Care/Gerontologist - any ideas?
When I spoke with someone at the Center for Shared Decision Making at Dartmouth, she suggested that I am more likely to get clearer diagnosis and prognosis by taking my dad to a Gerontologist who specializes in Palliative Care. Sounded like a great idea until I found out that the closest one of those is about 2 hours away.
I cannot transport my dad - he is in a wheelchair and cannot help us help him get in and out of a car. He constantly has to be taken to the bathroom or thinks his "diapers" (his word, not mine) need to be changed.
Anyway, she thinks if I can get a better picture of his prognosis it would help me with many decisions I am having to make, but if I can't get him there, then what? Anyone else faced with this? Any ideas?
