BUILDING HOPE: "Making Strides" Toward LBD Awareness

When Adam King learned his mother-in-law was diagnosed with LBD, he couldn't sit still in the face of shockingly low public awareness of such a common form of dementia. Instead, he literally committed to make strides towards LBD awareness by entering the 2010 Allan D. Morrison 5k Run/Walk.

Almost every community has some type of public event like a 5K run/walk. Read more about Adam and how you can join him in making strides towards LBD awareness!

Ginnie Burkholder's monthly essays on LBD caregiving are a poignant, and sometimes unflinching, look at unanticipated moments of love and grief that come with caring for a spouse with LBD. Her newest contribution is no different. Her husband's move to a different room at the nursing home brings with it an unexpected gift. Read Ginnie's newest essay and other LBD stories and know you are not alone.

LBD Awareness Week: Tip of the Day

Ask your local library, book store or senior center to display a table of information on Lewy body dementia. Here are a few tips: Refer the library to LBDA's website for a list of books on LBD and dementia caregiving. Request copies of LBDA publications for people to browse or take home. Consider scheduling your own 'special appearance' to talk about your personal experiences with LBD.
