Dreaming of Mom
My mother began to lose the core of herself during the last year of her life. I noticed this when she stopped reading, couldn’t write her Haiku anymore, couldn’t balance the family check book. When Mom went into coma, I continued to sit beside her bed and knit. I told her softly it was OK to go. Her family was safe and comforted by the memory of the love she gave us.
[When she passed away,] I lost so much of me. I stopped writing, reading and painting. My Muse was gone.
The next time Mom comes to visit me in my dreams, I’ll try and tell her that I’m still knitting and am trying to write again. I believe she will smile. – Elisabeth
