Sharing Experience - Making a Difference, One Person at a Time

In communities all over America, people are stepping forward to raise awareness of Lewy body dementia (LBD) at the local level. Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA) volunteers can tell you that every person, regardless of background or skills, can play an important role in bringing LBD out of the shadows.

Here is an excerpt from a letter from one man who is distributing LBDA materials in his community to personal friends and local organizations. He is making a difference, one person at a time!

“Thanks so very much for sending us copies of the LBD info packets. I have read through the caregiver packet and think that it is really great. I especially like the Understanding Behavioral Change article. I only wish that this type of information had been available for us when we were taking care of my mom, who died from LBD several years ago. Please pass along our compliments to the folks at LBDA who have created these useful info packets. They are excellent.

“I will immediately pass along a copy of the caregiver packet to our neighbor whose husband has LBD. She is having quite a struggle managing her husband's behavior and getting his neurologist to acknowledge and treat his LBD. Physicians here in our area have been slow to react to new information.…

“I will share copies of each of the packets with our local Parkinson’s disease support group, which is pretty large and quite active. The group maintains an information library and these will be a very valuable addition. I try to attend these monthly meetings as often as possible to be the LBD information person and to be available to provide support.

“Again, thanks so very much for the work that you all are doing. It is invaluable to families who are trying to cope with this devastating brain disease.”
