Lobby for Change: Speak Out at the Upcoming NIH Research Summit
LBD advocates are invited to attend and provide public comment on priorities for LBD research at the upcoming Alzheimer’s Disease-Related Dementias (ADRD) Summit, March 29-30, 2016 at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.
The signing of the National Alzheimer’s Project Act into law mandated that the National Institutes of Health create research strategies for both Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, including Lewy body, frontotemporal, vascular and mixed dementias. The strategy for the various “non-Alzheimer’s dementias” was developed by teams of scientists working together with the National Institutes of Health and was presented at the Alzheimer’s Disease-Related Dementias (ADRD) Workshop in 2013.
Clinical trials for LBD symptom management, originally listed as the last of 8 high priorities, was successfully moved to the top of the list in response to public comments made by people with LBD, family caregivers and representatives of LBDA.  Final recommendations, approved by the Council of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and the Advisory Council on Alzheimer’s Research, Care and Services, were published in the final report from the 2013 workshop.
Register for the summit today.
NOTE: If you are considering attending, please also notify Angela Taylor, Director of Programs at ataylor@lbda.org. (Include your full contact information so we can notify you of upcoming advocacy training opportunities.)
