Exercise improves mental and physical functioning in dementia patients

Contrary to popular perception, persons with severe dementia are able to reap cognitive and physicial benefits of structured exercise programs.

A pilot study at Saint Louis University School of Medicine in Missouri guided severely demented nursing home paitents through three 30-minute programs each week. After just three week, the patients were much less agitated and could walk further in a timed test.
