Lewy body dementia Caregiving Symposium

October 14, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm PDT

Presented by Lewy Body Dementia Association Research Center of Excellence at Stanford University and the Brain Support Network, this symposium is for those caring for a family member or friend with parkinsonism (or Parkinson’s disease), dementia, and hallucinations (or delusions). This combination of symptoms is called Lewy body dementia (LBD), Parkinson’s disease dementia, or dementia with Lewy bodies.

Everyone is welcome — family care partners, home care aides, healthcare professionals, anyone in the community interested in learning how to cope with Lewy body dementia, PD dementia, or dementia with Lewy bodies.

The symposium will feature:

  • Presentation by Kathleen Poston, MD, from Stanford University. Dr. Poston will give an overview of Lewy body dementia — symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Presentation by Christina Irving, LCSW, from the Family Caregiver Alliance who will discuss communication challenges in the context of dementia and hallucinations/delusions.
  • Lunch break
  • Panel discussion with LBD care partners some of whom have already lost their loved one whose diagnosis of LBD was confirmed through brain donation. Many of the care partners on the panel are members of the Brain Support Network’s Lewy body dementia care partner support group.
