Public Relations/Marketing Volunteers Needed

The Opportunity:  a) Play a pivotal role in a small, national disease advocacy organization, b) greatly expand public awareness of Lewy body dementias, and c) educate individuals about LBD symptoms and promote early reporting of them to physicians.  This allows for early diagnosis, intervention, and education and support for the person with LBD and their caregiver, as well as allowing for the opportunity to minimize risk of exposure to medications that may pose serious health risk to the person with LBD.

Objective:  Marketing & Public Relations Volunteer(s) will be responsible for collaborating with LBDA staff to develop opportunities to raise LBD awareness, enhance the branding LBDA, its programs and services, and position LBDA in the general public and medical profession as the leading voluntary health organization for the disease. This ‘volunteer-from-home’ position is ideal for individuals who are able to think creatively and entrepreneurially, while keeping our organizational mission in focus.

Qualifications:  The ideal volunteer for this role will have at least 5 years professional experience in public relations, press and media contacts and/or marketing.   Individuals with strong website, marketing, writing and communications skills are strongly encouraged to apply.

Basic functions involved:  Volunteers are needed to draft public relations materials including but not limited to press releases, media alerts, press kits, and status reports.

Work base:  Home

Time:  5-10 hours per month

Availability:  Ongoing, can set own schedule

Resources:  On the job training, LBDA manuals and personnel for ongoing reference

Skills:  The ideal candidate for this volunteer position is an individual with professional experience in public relations who is seeking an altruistic opportunity to display their talents. Excellent writing, research and computer skills required, along with the ability to develop media contacts at the regional and national level for print, broadcasting, and web necessary. Position requires an investigative spirit and good connections within the public relations community.

  • Writing press releases and pitching stories on LBDA programs and services, campaigns, milestones, major gifts and grant awards, new members and volunteer recognitions
  • Building and maintaining a national media list
  • Evaluating and improving our Press Room (online)
  • Other duties as time and opportunity allows

Length of Appointment:  The Lewy Body Dementia Association seeks to provide an enriching volunteer experience. Though assignments will be given on an as needed basis, volunteers are asked for a one-year minimum commitment. All training, materials and scripts will be provided.
