LBD Caregiver Driven to Care
Support groups should provide information, comfort, and hope. Cathy Flanagan found all of these things at a Boston-area Lewy body dementia support group. However, the three-hour round trip from her home in Shrewsbury, Mass., gave her something she didn’t need – stress! Cathy knew that she would not be able to cope with the demands of caring for her husband, Donald, and driving to support group meetings.
Her solution? Cathy started a new group. With training and assistance from the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Cathy began the new support group in June 2009. She already sees how much it is helping members, families, and health care professionals. Cathy is especially happy that the group meets at South Gate at Shrewsbury, a continuing care retirement facility that her husband founded and owned. To read more about Cathy Flanagan, click here.
