MRI shows promise in differentiating dementias
Researchers at Mayo Clinic used a framework entitled "STructural Abnormality iNDex" or STAND-Map to correctly diagnose three common neurodegenerative disorders: Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal lobar degeneration, and Lewy body disease using Structural MRI. Currently, only an autopsy can definitively diagnose these diseases.
The study was presented at the 2009 Alzheimer's Association International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease in Vienna.
