How much does a box of flowers cost?

FTD is providing the box of 30 roses at a discounted cost of $70 to all LBDA flower sellers. We ask that you pre-purchase the box(es) of flowers at $70 each, which is not tax deductible. Please purchase your flowers by clicking here.

Why is my purchase of the box of flowers not tax deductible?

When purchasing a product from a nonprofit – such as a rose - there is a tax deduction on the portion of the price paid over the value of the cost of the item. The LBD Flower Day campaign offers the flowers to you at cost to generate donations. Therefore, the purchase of the flowers is not tax deductible.

How much should I sell each flower for?

Please sell the flowers for a $10 donation or more. As you are approached by people explain that you are helping the Lewy Body Dementia Association raise awareness about Lewy body dementia (LBD) and offering the purple rose for a $10 donation to support LBDA and its mission. You may only accept CASH or CHECKS made out to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.

How much money am I expected to raise for LBDA?

We anticipate each box of flowers to raise $300 for LBDA by selling each rose at $10 each.

How do I obtain permission to sell the flowers at my place of worship, school or work?

Contact your place of worship leadership or business office, let them know about LBD Flower Day and ask if it is possible to offer roses in exchange for donations to LBDA on Oct. 5th or 6th. If you are not able to offer the flowers for sale at your place of worship, please consider some other options, such as asking for permission to hold your LBD Flower Day sale at work, at a family store, in front of a local convenience market or any location that works for you.

How many flowers should I order?

When determining how many boxes of flowers to order (30 roses per box, $70 per box), we do not want you to overestimate what you can accomplish. Selling one box of flowers offered at $10 each is a total of $300 in donations — a major success! If your place of worship has multiple services with large attendance and the purchase of addition boxes is not a financial burden, please feel free to order more. Consider bringing in a flower selling partner to help defray the upfront costs.

What day should I ask for my Flowers to be delivered?

Flowers should be delivered on Friday, October 4 if you are going to distribute them on the weekend. They should be delivered on Thursday, October 3 if you are going to distribute them at you place of employment or at school on Friday, October 4. Please make sure you are able to refrigerate the flowers you order until the day you distribute them for LBD Flower Day.

Once I register, what will I receive other than the flowers?

By the third week of September you will receive a toolkit from LBDA. The toolkit will include LBD Flower Day cards to hand out with the flowers or to those interested in learning more about LBD and LBDA, as well as additional information you can provide at your flower selling table.

Can I cancel my LBDA Flower Day order?

Unfortunately, no. If you are not able to distribute the flowers as planned, please try to make arrangements to have someone stand in for you or distribute the flowers and hand out the cards to friends, neighbors, and family without asking for a donation. Your effort is still a success in raising LBD awareness, and the investment you made will still support our cause.

Do I need to be highly knowledgeable about LBD to be successful with my efforts?

No! Let people know that you are offering the flowers to raise funds and increase awareness about LBD. Please hand them a card and point out LBDA’s phone number and web site address. Let them know that LBDA will be happy to provide them with any additional information they need or answer any questions they may have.

Can I accept credit card payment for donations?

No. Only cash or check may be accepted as we do not have the ability to process credit cards at remote locations. If someone would like to make a larger donation via credit card without purchasing flowers, they can do so on LBDA's donation page on www.lbda.org.

Once I receive all the donations, what do I do with the money?

Convert any cash donations to a personal check or money order made out to LBDA and return it along with the individual checks you received to: Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road SW, Lilburn, GA 30047, by October 25, 2013.
