Post Strategies to help mom recognize family members
Mom is having so much difficulty now trying to figure out the members of her family. She has asked for help since Thanksgiving was especially difficult. If mom could still read it would be as simple as different colored name tags for each family. But since that is no longer an option, I was wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions. We are working on a wall of pictures of each family together until we come up with a better idea. Any suggestions are appreciated. Peace & blessing

i was thinking of the name tags.... the only other suggestion is to let the folks know your mom is struggling with names and maybe each of the folks could introduce themselves at the beginning, of their conversation with your mom.... something simple like.. hi joanne, its mary.. so happy to see you its been awhile... blah blah

maybe a picture book.. she might like seeing her friends., when she is alone.. and it might be a fun thing for her to enjoy putting together with you .. when folks come to visit maybe a picture and the next day into her little scrapbook....

not sure either will help.. but will keep thinking...

good luck!!!

There was some discussion a while back about this and several people talked about how much their LOs liked the digital photo frames, or whatever they are called, where you upload photos and each one is shown for a little while, and the exhibit rotates. Many of our LOs could not hold books or anything so the digital photos near where they sit or lie in their beds requires nothing but watching and can keep them entertained a bit. I don't know if you can have a visible label for each photo so the names can be posted while the photo is showing, but if so, this might be a good idea. For people with Parkinson's tremors or the weakness that eventually comes, this seems like a good option. Lynn

What about putting pictures in a flash card type fashion and trying to go over it often might help her recall better?
