Any safe natural remedy for hallucinations?
Is there a natural safe remedy to treating hallucinations besides anti-psychotics?
A friend recommended lithium which calmed her mother. Without it, her mom's hallucinations reappeared.
My 89 year old mother with LBD suffers severe anxiety, fear and hallucination usually before bed time (sundowning), begging to leave nursing home; but painfully it's not an option.
My psychiatrist cautioned against use of lithium.

Lithium is used to treat bipolar disorder. While it can be extracted from natural sources, that does NOT make it safe. After all, both cyanide and arsenic are from natural sources, too!

MY husband was just diagnosed with LBD. Can someone tell me how to manage the hallucinations. He is so frightened by them and becomes suicidal. I don't want to keep calling 911.

Not 'natural' but Seroquel helps my husband.

The only thing Natuiral I can think of is "redirection" which never really works ! We had Exelon which reduced them but not completely and then we had to use Seroquel !

My wife is on seroquel 25mg and the Exelon Patch. But the hallucinations are mainly thinking somethingis in her hands. Once in a while there are people, animals and children involved. Can not increase the Seroquel as that puts her to sleep and almost to the point of unable to wake her.

Seroquel helped my mom. She has been on it for about 6 years now. Without it, she was a real danger to herself and others as she often would pick up a knife thinking someone was about to attack her. The Seroquel calmed her immensely.

My husband was diagnosed with Lewy Body in 2008 and it started with hallucinations. Acricept helped amazingly well for several years, and also with cognitive issues. Hallucinations did not go away but became less bothersome. Now he is on high dose of Seroquel for hallucinations in addition to Aricept. Bright lights also seem to help. Best to you, Barbara
