Re: Financial considerations from moment of diagnosis
Well said, Nan. The stress can really get to the caregiver big time! Take good care of yourselves so you aren't a casualty of the disease too. Lynn

BC, I am glad for 2 things for you, that your wife is getting help for herself and her problems and that your daughters are helping you muddle through the things that need to be done !!

Nan, I am glad you are just taking one day at a time, that's all most of us can do!

Good insight, Nan.
Craig, I am glad that your daughters are coming forward. One day at a time, you'll all get through this, making each day as good as it can be.

That's great Craig. I think with LTD you can also go on Medicare. At least that's what happened to a friend of mine who had a stroke at age 52 and could not return to work as an engineer. I'm glad you have some $ coming in again. Lynn

Re: Financial considerations from moment of diagnosis
Hi, Craig. Gee, I haven't been looking on this section much, so missed much of your struggle. I'm so glad you have your disability now. How about your house? Did the bank give you a break? Or did you need to find something else?
Terrific that your wife and daughters are stepping up - even if your wife has her own demons to fight. And good for her for fighting them. You and your family (now that they truly understand the issue) are an example of "when the going gets tough, the tough get going." The "tough" just needed to understand how tough the situation is.
Tonya, about driving. My sister has been on disability for years (severe depression and PTSD). She never stopped driving and has had to drive for her medical appointments. Lately, as a writer, she has even worked a bit. I think there's a dollar limit that you can earn. I know there is with plain old Social Security.
Best wishes to both of you. Keep up the good work. We're in your corner.
Kate

Re: Financial considerations from moment of diagnosis
very emotional momentâ¦.
drafting the end of life documentsâ¦
giving the power of life and financial independence over to someone else on a legal documentâ¦and paying for that priviledgeâ¦
trip to elder law attorney was necesarry and very drainingâ¦.

Re: Financial considerations from moment of diagnosis
Well done Craig! Now that awful job is out of the way, you can put it behind you as much as you can, and be proud of all you have achieved since you became ill. I'm proud of you and I hardly know you !! - but listening to how articulate you are, how you are getting on with it, how you are putting your best foot forward, you sound like a man that will not be put down. It must be so difficult, but try to be positive, and when you feel down, talk to us. God Bless, Ger x
