Post Coumadin ok?
Mom fell and broke her hip 4 days ago; had surgery, now recovering in transitional care facility. Not doing well...exhausted and more confused. Only pain med is Tylenol and her pain seems minimal. Doc has her on Coumadin though and I have no idea if that drug is safe for LBD patients. Any thoughts out there?

Although as we all know that medications can affect our LO's differently, and each persons experience is unique, my Mom has been taking Coumadin (warfarin) for years with no adverse effects.

Coumadin [warfarin sodium] is an anticoagulant and the main adverse effect is bleeding. Be assured that Coumadin is an important medication [probably temporary] for her post-surgical condition to prevent dangerous blood clots and is not likely to be a problem in LBD. Her protime [blood clotting time] will be frequently monitored to assure proper dosing.

Thank you so much. I also talked to the head nurse at her transitional care facility and he seemed pretty knowledgable about LBD. He said in his opinion Coumadin shouldn't be a problem for moms thinking/memory.

Now we might have to get her something stronger for her pain, however. He is suggesting oxycodone or something like that. I haven't heard of this so will do another search on that.

I sure appreciate this website and all the helpful people!
