It's very hard to be around someone who is depressed. You might consider getting counseling for yourself to deal with this. And consider joining a local caregivers support group.

You probably mean Dr. Nilufer Taner at Mayo Jax. One or two other Forum members have reported that their family members see her. She's a dementia specialist, not a movement disorder specialist.

To get some insight into how a movement disorder specialist might address the wearing off and anxiety attacks, I suggest you do a search of posts on NPF's Ask the Doctor Forum. Search for posts containing the words "wearing off anxiety." Start here:

Then click on "Ask the Doctor." Then use the search bar at the top. This issue comes up frequently on that Forum.

just some thoughts…if you will let me put this out there on this idea…..of trying to make a patient (me) happy….

sounds like you are trying to 'fix' something….static….something that is stationary….something that is not moving…your Mother….

but…your Mother isn't the problem….she is after all ….sitting right there….stationary…..static….with you…..that much is fixed….
that is all that you can fix….

the problem is dynamic….it would be kind of like 'wing shooting'…..or shooting birds on the fly….

I have made some comments before about 'memory blocks' being disassociated….then popping up later….not lost…but…dynamically moved in my brain…..to maybe pop in….at some future date….
like taking a step and freezing up….did that 'action block' become disassociated….because a little later another step took place again….

what is noise one moment….might be a pleasing song another…..and then frightening the next….
your smile might be pleasing one moment…..taunting the next….and then frightening the next….

what is the 'moment' associated 'with'? …..and 'now'…..what is it associated 'with'?

if you try to 'force' an 'association' ….to force a 'fix'….do you think that works?
maybe…sometimes….every now and then…..once in a blue moon?
more likely….

the 'act' of forcing an 'association' becomes associated with aggravation, and an unhappy response…..

I know you are told to not try to force the association in the case of a frightening experience….such as hallucinations or delusions….
so….think a little more out of the box….
noise, cold, hot, bored, happy, frightened, touch, something seen…..

any…..'brain block of info' could be disassociated…..any input to the patient from any of the external 'senses'…..or any internal 'thought'…..

I think you can only make yourself 'happy' in what you are choosing to do or not do…..

Please….take anything I write as the thoughts of a patient…struggling to make sense of what is happening…and not a reflection of any caregiver past or present….
