 Dislocated Jaw Joe yawned real big and dislocated his jaw. Went to hospital and had it put back in place. I was told it could happen again. Well, it has happened 4 times in about a 3 wk period. We are trying to learn how to put it back ourselves but it's a terrible ordeal for him and us each time. My question is; have any of you experienced this problem and how did you solve it?
I have tried coming up with contraptions to put around his chin and over the head to keep him from yawning so big but can't seem to find anything that works. Anything with elastic is no good. It has to be something that fits very tight around the head and won't slip off.

Re: Dislocated Jaw I'm sorry to hear about this. Can the ER give you training as to how to put the jaw back yourself? If not, can you ask your MD for a referral to home health, and then hopefully a home health agency can show you how to do this.

Re: Dislocated Jaw Joe is on hospice and the second time it dislocated, the dr who put it back in the emergency room told me how to try putting it back. The last 2 times it went out, my neighbor was able to put it back for me by what I told him. I haven't been able to yet but know I have to learn to do it.
Each time it goes out, It not only is very painful for Joe but it becomes easier to happen again. I am trying to find a solution.
Joe is end stage and now bedbound.

Re: Dislocated Jaw Google "facelift compression garments" and I think you will find what you are looking for. Make sure you get one that has the strap that also goes behind the head or the front part will just slide off. Hope this helps, Nan

Re: Dislocated Jaw Oops - my message just disappeared! Anyway, I am so sorry you all are experiencing this. Must be very painful for him and scary for you. My ex-husband's shoulder used to dislocate regularly, and the dr. told him how to coach me or others to put it back in place. It was really creepy but I did it. I'm hoping you can get it figured out so you don't have to keep going to the ER. This is all you need to deal with! Lynn
