 Side effects of medication
My daughter has had shingles for two weeks now. It started with a severe head ache so it was not recognized as shingles. It broke out in blisters on her forehead next to an eye. She was treated for it and the totally unexpected 'side effect' of the medication has been swollen legs. There was no 'side effect warning' that swollen legs could be a problem.
Her doctor said yesterday, "It's too bad but diseases don't read the side effect warnings on treatment bottles!"

 Re: Side effects of medication
Leone, I would be concerned, as swollen legs can be a sign of renal failure and unfortunately, some drugs can cause renal failure in some people.

Robin..... She has been in the Kaiser Permanente hospital in Long Beach... I'm sure they have been taking good care of her. Thanks for your concern.

 Re: Side effects of medication
Um, Leone, you can blame me, not Robin for the concern. Glad to hear she's in good hands. As a nurse I tend to look for the worst-case scenario, I guess. Besides, it happened to my husband once when he was in a SNF for rehab after a hospital stay in AZ. His legs swelled up and started weeping and no one was paying any heed to it but me. He was in post-renal failure, fortunately reversible.

ooops.... sorry, Pat. I'm a little loopy tonight. Poor Dale has had a really big day and he is delusional .... but we're managing. I'm just so glad I'm getting the hang of all this.

 Re: Side effects of medication
I just thought the doctor's comment was classic. We never know what the 'side effects' of anything are going to be, do we?

 Re: Side effects of medication
Speaking of side effects, Fran had another fever last night, the first one was several weeks ago. I spoke to his doctor's assistant today and found out that his white cell count is normal low from the Clozapine that he takes before going to bed. I have to take him tomorrow for another bloodtest. Wouldn't you know it, something that is helping him sleep through the night probably will have to be stopped soon. Oh well here comes the sleepless nights again.
