Re: Alternatives to Haldol
Dad has been in long term care for almost 6 months now. My dad has been totally removed from Haldol. He gets trazadone to sleep and there have been no problems. Still the occasional aggression in the morning when nursing home staff are getting him up but staff have figured out how to work with him.
He continues to do well. There are moments of clarity that we hold on to. He still knows who we are and looks forward to our daily visits. He has been able to enjoy outings like going to a nearby restaurant for lunch or a country drive in the nursing home's bus. He enjoys the many activities staff provide especially if they involve music or ice cream.
My mom has since sold her house, moved to an apartment and bought a newer car. She has settled into their new lives and even has booked a trip to Mexico so that she can attend her granddaughter's wedding in March. She has made arrangements for family friends to visit my dad while we are gone.
We don't know how long dad will do well but we take it day by day and enjoy those moments.
