Has anyone experienced vomiting at night for no obvious reason? About 5 times now Ken has woken up (or not) and vomited all over the bed. Unfortunately he holds it in until it spews with rapid velocity and covers everything. We had at first considered that constipation might be the problem but have since ruled that out. I keep his bed elevated (at least 30 degrees) and have him stay up at least 2 hours after dinner, which is very light. Anyone else? Any suggestions? Thanks, Sher

By 'rapid velocity' you don't mean projectile vomiting, do you? That is when the vomitus is shot out a great distance with much force and is usually a serious neurological symptom. It would seem that vomiting could be triggered by Lewy in the same way hiccups and other autonomic nervous system dysfunctions occur but it might be wise to run it past his neurologist. Aside from the obvious problems with mess, it could cause choking.

Could this be GERD?

I don't believe it is GERD, unless it is a new problem. That is why I'm careful to keep him elevated and not give him too much to eat. I'm thinking that GERD would present itself sooner after lying down but sometimes he's been asleep 6 hours before it happens. As far as projectile vomiting, I thought so at first when I had not witnessed it actually happen but recently I was standing by the bed and he obviously was vomiting but was not opening his mouth to allow it to escape, but a second 'round' came shooting out much as if you filled your mouth with water then clapped your cheeks. The Dr. took stomach x-rays and Ken is scheduled for a cat-scan in 2 weeks. I will let you know what I find out. Thanks, Sher

And I guess no bowel impaction was seen on the xrays??

The only other thought I have is that it might be gastroparesis but that is typically accompanied by stomach bloating and early satiety when eating.
