Re: Sudden decline over five weeks
I think this has been discussed before somewhere--their inability to consciously move but able to spontaneously walk. If their brain doesn't have to process it first, they do fine. At least, in that stage. Five or six months ago I was still out walking the dog in the morning when our caregiver arrived early and rang the doorbell. Derek apparently got up from his chair, walked to the door and let him in! He hadn't been able to get out of a chair on his own for months.

Re: Sudden decline over five weeks
Dale was yelling at 4:30 am for pain medication.
I got him standing once this morning ... but now he is back in bed too weak to do it again. He is wearing Depends but unless he can move his rear end, I can't change it.
I gave him a cup of coffee ... hoping that would help.... but he hasn't had breakfast and it's almost 10 am. The care giver comes at 10 am.
Dale has an appointment with his PCP tomorrow and I'm wondering if I can get him there. Maybe I can't do this after-all.

How has his postural BP been running?

Re: Sudden decline over five weeks
The last sitting reading was 138 over 89 ... and then 106 over 76 a few minutes later.
He just asked me if I knew Ruby. (She has worked for us for over eleven years.) I said, "Who am I?" and he said, "I don't know."

Does it drop a lot when he stands up?

Re: Sudden decline over five weeks
Normally, his blood pressure drops 20 degrees when he stands, yes. That has been the pattern since I started testing.
However, today I'm not trying to test him standing. It took three of us to get him upright and he finally walked to the kitchen to eat breakfast just before 11 am. He moves his feet only when we count... or he counts 'I, 2, 3, etc.
When I change his wet pad, he says moving his hips feels good.... but it's a terrible job because he can't help me at all.

Re: Sudden decline over five weeks
The similarities between Leone's husband's progress and my husband's continue to amaze me. Also, it seems that the range of symptions and behavior over all cases is remarkably consistent.
My husband has issues with the toilet also. At first it was fear of it clogging, now it's a more generalized dread, expressed at night when he is pretty out of it. He would freeze right in the bathroom doorway for a long time. After trying some other solutions, I thought that perhaps we could train his feet if not his mind. During the day, we made several practice trips into and out of the bathroom without his stopping. So far it seems to be working.
