 Bedsores
Mom's skin appears to be breaking down although she's still eating and I try so hard to make sure she's getting the proper nutrients. She has 2 bedsores, one on her back and the other on her backside. Hospice brought an electric air mattress which I hope will help. She slept for 39 hours straight between Monday night-Wed morning, only urinating 2 times during her sleep. She went at 11 pm last night but hasn't gone since. I'm afraid a catheter will be next. She has eaten yesterday and today but she's really not hungry. I think she's eating to please me but I am not trying to force her to eat. She continues to sleep a lot. I try to talk to her as much as I can when she's awake I hate this disease!

Bedsores can take months to heal. The air mattress is good. Ask hospice how frequently you should be turning her from side to side. Unfortunately we had to turn my dad every 2 hours, which really doesn't help promote deep, restorative sleep.

If it's the kind of mattress I think it is, turning might not be necessary, as the mattress adjusts the pressure automatically so that no one spot gets continuous pressure. They are very expensive and wonderful to have! She might still need turning every few hours to keep her lungs clear, though.
