Hi Amanda - I'm so sorry for what you are going through. Just keep reminding yourself that this is the disease that's taken over your dad, it's not your dad doing this. I know it is so hard to do when you're in the midst of some innappropriate behavior.
Should he be on some med. that he is not taking, or should some med be increased to help his behavior?
It's hard to imagine a 91 year old having overtly sexual behavior, but this is SUCH a strange disease, isn't it? Lynn

Amanda, is he on any kind of Levodopa medication? That can sometimes cause sexual behavior.

Thanks, Pat. It was terrible, but I have had to overcome it in order to keep helping my family. I called a crisis counselor who told me to remember that he was not my dad when he was doing what he was doing. Since these incidents, he has been paranoid and certain he's going to be arrested or charged with sexual abuse, so I know he is at least twilight aware. My hope is that we can get him on some meds which will help to decrease this behavior.

Amanda,
The words and actions are very hard to take, but we have to hold the fact that these actions are not the person but the disease. When I go visit, I try to stay close to the door and leave it open. That seems to be safer and I never go for more than 2 hours---usually more like thirty minutes. My LO told me a couple weeks ago that he has lost all desire for sex, so who knows maybe "this too shall pass" I hope for your sake it does.

 Re: obessing on sexual activities
Reducing Sinemet a few weeks ago didn't help the delusional behavior so we've returned to 1/2 pill Sinemet in the early morning. It has given back some limited mobility - which is great - but the sexual obsessions have been constant for the past three days.
Dale takes 100 Seroquel before bed. Would you 'old timers' increase the amount of Seroquel .... or just ignore the constant horney behavior?
He is back to walking around the house aimlessly looking for ways to get in trouble. He forgets to use the walker and looks extremely vulnerable. I suspect he thinks I'm doing something he ought to know about.

 Re: obessing on sexual activities
I'm an old timer in the sense of being in our eighth year of dealing with this, but we are still in early stages so I haven't dealt with more advanced problems. But I would not experiment with Coy's Seroquel dosage without discussing it with his doctors. Do you think more Seroquel would make him less horny? I hadn't heard that, but we are not facing that issue, so maybe there has just been no reason to bring it up.

Leone - are you sure he isn't sneaking Viagra into his diet? Don't feed him oysters!

 Re: Seroquel and sexual behavior
robin wrote: These are very common problems. Is your husband taking an antipsychotic such as Seroquel? Can you speak with the MD about increasing the dose? I was responding to Robin's post on this thread. She asked the question about increasing the Seroquel. I wondered if anyone had tried that solution.
Our neurologist is not the best place for advice. I usually get more good advice here than from him.

I, for one, would take advantage of the situation, Leone.

 Re: obessing on sexual activities
I'm shocked, Pat..... totally shocked! Actually, he thinks I'm still 25 and my 75 year old body has limitations.
By the way, what is 'obessing' anyhow?????

 Re: obessing on sexual activities
And he thinks he's 17 probably, like a lot of men do at any age! LOL

 Re: obessing on sexual activities
Can anyone tell me why he can't move his torso or hips in bed and he literally falls into the wheelchair because he can't manage a controlled sit. In fact, he can no longer get on his knees easily...... and yet, one part of that portion of his anatomy works so well? It isn't fair. What a sick sense of humor the creator must have.

 Re: obessing on sexual activities
Sounds like he has ataxia - something my dad had months before the big decline. Their whole trunk loses coordination between/among the muscles and becomes very weak. Their brain is not telling the muscles how to move anymore re: reaching behind them, bending over, sitting, rolling over, etc. Inability to properly clean himself in the shower, using the toilet, falling onto the bed, etc. were things I was noticing way before we knew he had LBD/PDD.
