Post Re: "I Want to Go Home"
Thanks for the kind words.
Yes, I have been talking daily with his LBD specialist, and we've been adjusting his meds, and do realize that the steroids and COPD are major culprits in this 'mess'.
It was interresting to me that you mentioned that some cognitive declines were signs of an ONCOMING issue. You are so right. Just before the COPD episode that landed him in the hospital, he all of a sudden had issues with being able to work the light switches. Couldn't figure out how to turn the outside lights on and off, and was going outside to the garage to turn off the patio lights. Then he'd turn them ON in the house and go OUT to turn them off. It was kind of "cute" to see him "problem solving" his little dilemma. But then the big CRASH hit and we were in trouble. I'll be more alert now to those kinds of things as pre-cursers to a physical problem lurking in the wings.
I so appreciate the forum....thank you all for participating. I used to read on it every night, then the "good spell" hit and I stopped. It was a comfort to get back and find all you wonderful supporters on line tonight. I know it takes time to "share", but what a blessing it can be. THANKs to all who have replied.
PS....I can feel your hugs~!

We've all been there or will be there in the future. Frank was in tears that I was having an affair, after all these years, I'd do that to him. There's no way to convince them it's not true, if I implied it was the disease, he say I was just playing mind games with him. We've pretty much got past that, but he still doesn't recognize his home or lately our vehicles. Melt downs are our medicine, you can't be expected to hold all this saddness in, it's not healthy. Take care of yourself, we'll be pulling for you.

Gerry.... Like Frank, Dale has also believed I'm having an affair. Mine is an 18 year old. Having never been unfaithful to him in 27 years of marriage, it stings ... even when it isn't true. Right?

Dale is constantly delusional these days and he often has hallucinations as well. We stopped Sinemet for a few weeks hoping that would stop them but they continued to he is back on a half pill each morning .. with the accompanying insanity. He never thinks of this as 'our home.' Last night, he said, "Let's leave here and get some snacks." At other times, he talks of our home as a 'facility.' Many people work here .... All have the same name.

My mother often asks to go home. When she sees me coming down the hall she is all excited because she thinks she is going home. I try to take her home at least for part of the day once a week. She usually just sits and watches some tv but I think she enjoys the quiet. My cat has taken a real interest in her. He likes to curl up in the chair next to her. She makes over him and seems to really enjoy him. She enjoys America's Funniest Videos and I love to her her laugh.

She and I flew from Minneapolis to Indianapolis when I moved her. It was a very long day for us but she did so well. It was as if the LBD lifted just long enough for us to get here. Now I wouldn't think of flying with her.

I think wanting to go home is also very common and not much you can do to change their minds, even one's that live at home want to go home, the best you can do is redirect, redirect, redirect!
