I understand 'sudden onset.' Dale's illness began in February of 2009 with horrific delusions and hallucinations three Friday nights in the row. I began to think Friday night was a jinx. Before that, he had about four years of dizziness and very minor confusion which were barely noticeable.

After those Friday nights, whatever was wrong could no longer be ignored. Dale had been seeing a neurologist who wanted to give him Cymbalta. The doctor never asked if anyone in Dale's family had bipolar disorder. (His son did. That should have been a contra indication.)

At that point, I went looking for another neurologist.

Nan,
Were the neuropsych tests given in 2005 as part of his DBS pre-eval? I thought most centers started doing neuropsych tests in 2008 or so after many people with PD developed full-blown Lewy Body Dementia after DBS.

Yes, Robin. They gave him a full day's worth of testing. That was back in late 2004 or very early in 2005. He had the testing to determine whether there were deficits that would make it inappropriate for him to have the surgery. He had additional testing before the second surgery. And they have continued to do testing every year or 15 months. I don't think we will be doing much more of that kind of testing...the last was late in 2008. Six months ago his score was 21 on the Mini-mental test. 6 weeks ago it was 10. Pretty significant decline. And he's worse now than he was 6 weeks ago. Unless it stops moving, I can't imagine him walking (stumbling) and talking for much longer.

I hate this awful disease.
