The guest speakers wrote a booklet several years ago on "Managing Advanced Parkinson's Disease." "This booklet offers advice on caring for someone whose own abilities are declining and includes decisions about housing, assistance with activities of daily living, and making end of life plans. The authors also provide information on palliative care and hospice, a concept of care that focuses on an individual’s peace, comfort, and dignity." Who: Parkinson's Disease Foundation, joined by Joan Gardner, R.N., B.S.N., and Rose Wichmann, P.T., of the Struthers Parkinson's Center in Minneapolis, MN.

Joan Gardner, R.N., B.S.N., is a registered nurse and clinic supervisor of the Struthers Parkinson's Center in Minneapolis MN, coordinating the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) Center of Excellence at this location. Rose Wichmann P.T., is a physical therapist and manager of Struthers Parkinson's Center. The center is recognized nationally for its interdisciplinary team approach to management of Parkinson's disease.

Together, Ms. Gardner and Ms. Wichmann co-authored "Managing Advanced Parkinson's Disease,” distributed nationally by NPF. They also developed the TULIPS program, a Parkinson’s training toolkit designed for use by senior residential facilities. Both Mrs. Gardner and Ms. Wichmann are faculty members of NPF’s Allied Team Training for Parkinson's program. They continue to work on programs and services designed to enhance and improve care for those with Parkinson's and their family care partners.
