Father's day card from my step-daughter
One of Coy's daughter's came by yesterday with a big bouquet that I assumed was for him. Turned out she had a gift card for him, and the flowers were for me.
In the pretty thank-you card she wrote: "Jeanne, Thank You for all you do for everyone but most importantly to me how you lovingly care for my dad."
Wow, huh?
My heart goes out to all those caregivers who have to deal with argumentative siblings and clueless children and constant family strife. If you didn't get a thank you yesterday, let me share mine. Thank you for all you do for your loved ones. The world is a better place because of you.

JeanneG, What a wonderful gesture and it was from the heart. My family is very close and my heart breaks when I read how grown children have no compassion for their LO's. They haven't taken the time to learn what this disease is and the commitment it requires form the caregivers. You ARE a wonderful wife and caregiver. Coy must also have been very pleased. Enjoy those flowers.

It's those unexpected acts of thoughtfulness that keep us going. Your step-daughter sounds lovely.

I agree that remarks like these help to keep us going. On Father's Day, Derek's son came for a visit and he also thanked me for 'taking such good care of Dad'. The staff he met at the nursing home were very complimentary of my devotion to Derek and that made me feel good, too.

I'm glad for you, Pat. You are taking such good care of his Dad. We know it and it is good to know that his son knows it, too!

Pat - I too am glad you get the recognition you deserve, and I hope all of you caregivers out there get a thank you, pat on the back, whatever, at least once in a while. Have a good night everyone. Lynn

Something like that would start me crying.
It's amazing how a simple thing like flowers can renew us.

Re: Father's day card from my step-daughter
let me add a thank youâ¦a virtual bouquetâ¦to all caregiversâ¦
you all have my admirationâ¦for doing what you doâ¦when the thanks usually are only internalâ¦
I am enjoying thinking about those flowers...
