 Re: Arranging for Respite Care
He slept in this morning--the girls said they could not get him up. Very unusual for him. He is also hallucinating quite a bit. Unusual for morning--I'm wondering if he got his Seroquel last night. When we were getting him up he complained of pain in his thigh [after I mentioned only yesterday that he had not had that problem in two years!] and he accused the aide of being 'cruel and sadistic'. When the nurse brought his meds she asked him how he was feeling this morning. He answered, "Apprehensive", but could not elaborate. I asked for Tylenol for him and by the time he had his 'brunch' he felt better. Then he had to have a BM and I couldn't get anyone to help get him on the toilet so he was incontinent [perhaps that was what he was 'apprehensive' about?] Then he had another large BM on the floor as we were lifting him off the toilet. I often wonder how much 'incontinence of stool' is just a result of slowness of the staff to act. But these girls have so many things to do for so many people there is probably no way they can respond to every light right away. At least at home we usually get him there in time unless he's having unusually soft stools.

 Re: Arranging for Respite Care
Indeed, I was told that this wasn't considered "bowel incontinence."

 Bowel problem - Pat
Dale has decided that having a BM in the toilet is too difficult to achieve and that he needs to stand and push instead. I wonder if there is some sort of container for that sort of delusion? Cleaning stuff off the edge of the toilet, off the floor and off any clothing that is at his feet on the floor .... Yuk!

 Re: Arranging for Respite Care
Leone, do you think a toilet riser would help?

 Re: Arranging for Respite Care
Yes, I have ordered a toilet riser. It should arrive next week. I'll let you know if that helps.
Our bedroom has become 'hospital central.' Walker, wheelchair, medicines, all sorts of pillows, towels... I used to have such a pretty room and now the beautiful comforter bedspread lies rolled on the floor. Dale doesn't want anything warm on him. He is mostly HOT.
I'm sure this sounds really familiar .....

Yes Leone, it is familiar. Fran does not sleep in PJ, just his underwear and a little while ago I had to take off the shirt. Only problem is I know he will wake me up in the middle of the night to put it back on.
Bernie = Fran who tells me he can't fall asleep but is snoring
