Doing what you love is better than making money. Thanks for the reminder, Irene.

Re: How much sleep do they need?
Irene, not just doing what he enjoys but helping people. That's kind of what influenced me to leave a 'better' position and get my nursing degree. As it turns out, it was a good choice.

I agree, Pat ... Nursing is certainly one of the highest callings. I deeply admire all who are willing to do that sort of work.
When I wanted to continue with music in college, my mother said, "What are you going to do with it?" She was right. It was impractical. It hasn't made me rich - but I think it's a way of helping people too.

Re: How much sleep do they need?
Strange thing is I worked in a nursing home some yrs back and was going to go for LPN and I found out I was pregnant, I worked through most of it , took my 6 week leave and when I returned they wanted to float me on 5 different floors as PRN and I said no way I wanted back on my own floor, so I stepped down was prevented from the county working for the next 5yrs and I ended up moving to FL and life went on!

Re: How much sleep do they need?
Irene, I worked briefly at a rural hospital that wanted me to float to labor & delivery and I refused. My only experience at that time was in a big city Level I trauma center and the idea terrified me. The line from Prissy, in Gone With the Wind, "I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' no babies", came to mind. That's when I decided to go into home health and there I stayed.

 Pat and Irene
And I'm really glad you are both here for those of us who know very little about medicine! I never wanted to be a nurse.... and 'now I are one.'
What a horrible development this is!!!!
Can i go out and play now?
