I just found a great lap tray called Lap Topper from Home Theater Express The Lap Topper is a tote-able table that stays steady ...
It's light weight and raises the tray closer for less spills and has soft side so good when they jerk so not to hurt arms and very steady.

Sorry the link didn't work. You can google it. It's sold by others but this home theather express was the cheapest when figure shipping and all.
