Post wheel chairs
Tony has had another bad fall....of course the caregivers at the facility don't know how it happened, said he "jumped" out of his chair??? They are requesting a wheelchair as they say it is getting harder to walk him. I do agree that it is difficult but I am able to walk him myself. What is the downside of putting him in a wheelchair. I am concerned that he will sit there all day and they will not move him around and his bowels will not work well. Of course, I would still walk him every afternoon when I am there. Do they become dependent on the wheelchair once in it?

You might ask the facility what they'll do when he jumps out of his wheelchair.

There are pros and cons with a wheelchair. It is safer but then if your husband is getting up on his own then it's no safer than anything else.

I have just spoken with the administrator, an RN, with lots of experience to get her opinion. She said it is a catch 22. Agreed that it will not stop him from trying to get up. She is going to watch him for a couple of days. Basically I think it is for the "convenience" of the caregivers and with what I pay, I am not necessarily interested in making their jobs easier. What are the downsides of being in a wheelchair. His parkinsons is tightening him up and when he is in the wheelchair I am afraid it will get worse quicker...may be wrong.
