This seems like a silly question that may not have a real answer...
We have long term insurance for my husband which includes home care as well as ALF, nursing home for 5 years. I ahve had a companion coming once a week for about 6 months purely for company. However, within the last month I have started having them come if I know I need to be out for more than a couple of hours ( work,etc). So now they come 8-10 hours/week... which will increase in the fall when our daughter starts the school year.

My question: at what point do we begin the use of the insurance benefits?

I know none of us has a crystal ball... I guess part of me is sill in denial. It's a hard ball to start rolling...

Really depends on what your cap is. My LTC insurance has a cap of $2 million. A local support group member has a cap on in-home care of $40K. Another local support group member has a cap on in-home care of $100K.

You might give the details of your LTC insurance to a financial planner and ask them to work out some scenarios for you.
