Anyone have any ideas how I could transport my dad 90 miles so I could get him to Johns Hopkins? He cannot hep anyone help him transfer from wheelchair to car and back again, so car is out. An ambulance would be $300 plus $10 a mile, so about $2,100 just to get to a dr. appt. and back. Has anyone had this problem and found a good solution?
I cannot find a geriatriac/palliative care dr. on the Eastern Shore of MD. Anyone know of one that I haven't been able to find?

Can you rent a van that has an area for wheelchairs to be strapped down?

Have you contacted a nearby senior citizen center or the local Alzheimer's Association chapter?

I'll look into both of the options but the problem with a lot of alternatives is that in rural areas they don't have the kinds of things you find in more metrop. areas. And, I am not familiar with the services in the area where his ALF is. I will check into these things tomorrow - thanks Robin.
