I was wondering if anyone knew the rules about sending a cargiver a 1099. Do we have to report the pay we give her? We have just been paying her by check and then someone told me I have to report it and pay ss and medicare tax.

You might check irs.gov. I think they have a pretty good description of the rules about this.
You can also check w/your accountant (who would likely have to do the 1099, if one was required).

I did some checking on IRS but there is so much info there it was confusing. I believe i would have to send the 1099 but there is conflicting info as to if I have to pay SS and medicare taxes. I do have a call into my accountant but he is out so will let you know when I hear.
