Post Daugher in Illinois
My Introduction: My father was diagnosed 2 years ago and is now 68. I'm the oldest daughter & Dad lives closest to me. Parents are divorced. Dad is also a polio survivor / paraplegic: so his diagnosis had led to a pretty fast physical decline. Shortly after his diagnosis, he was no longer able to walk. He is now in a skilled nursing facility.

Welcome Rabbit. I hope you like the NH where your dad is and they are taking good care of him. This forum and the chat are great places to make friends and get info. that will be helpful to you as you help your dad navigate this terrible disease. Take care of yourself too! Lynn

Welcome but sorry you have a need to be here. Are you in Chicago? We have several members here in the Chicago area.

It's been a blurr: just wandered back to this forum after running across it again on Facebook. I am in Central, IL. Thanks for the welcome. Dad has been doing fairly well, has settled into his 'home' and they have been taking good care of him there & I can visit often. My mother is now under care as well / different issue. It has been tough.

It's been a long time - welcome back! Is your mom in the same facility? It must be very difficult with 2 parents needing a lot of care. Glad you are back here. Lynn

Dear Rabbit,
A sad welcome to you; but please let me say you are a Blessing to your Father and Mother. My FIL once said "We owe the generation before us, the generation ahead of us, and our own generation." You've fulfilled, are fulfilling the "before" part. Please do not forget the "your own" part. I only wish I could say I'd instilled your values in one of our Adult "Children." I am thanking you for caring for your father. Be well,
savta

Welcome to the forum. I am the primary caregiver for my MIL. We are located in Illinois about 23 miles east of St. Louis. I have no LBD support groups close to me. If you are ever in St. Louis and need assistance, let me know. Good luck on your journey through this disease. Donna

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate having the support of others who truly have some understanding. As with other issues in my life, it's hard to understand until you've 'worn those shoes'.

Rabbit, you poor thing. Try to make time for you as well. I know just how difficult it is to care for two ill parents - it sounds like you have an awful lot on your hands, and maybe it is a blessing in disguise that you mother had to be placed for a while, and be sure to let your brother help. Come here often. I know I couldn't carry on without the support of all here. God Bless, Ger x
