Post He's gone
Derek passed into Glory at 3PM this afternoon here at home. Last night at about 2:30 AM he began the death rattle but seemed to be resting comfortably, though noisily. Fortunately some of his kids were able to visit last night and I hope he knows they were there. I'm numb right now. Even after all the years, it seemed very sudden. One minute he looked pink and feverish and a few minutes later he was pale and waxy-looking. It was hard for me to believe. The Hospice nurse came and helped me wash him and change his gown then she called the funeral home to come and pick him up. They just left a few minutes ago. It's still all unreal to me but I wanted to let you on the forum know.

Pat,
My heart goes out to you. It sounds like his passing was very peaceful. You've been a wonderful caregiver, remember that and take care of yourself.

Pat - I am so sorry, I know how close you 2 were. I hope you can take comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering all those awful delusions and other things that brought so much discomfort. I've been thinking about you all the last few days and wondering how things were going. I'm glad you have some family around to help out and give you support. Please stay in touch. Big, big hug, Lynn

I'm sorry for everything, Pat. You could not make him well, though goodness knows you tried. You did what was humanly possible to comfort him. Now he rests.

Pat, I am so very sorry for your loss. He is at peace now from this awful disease. I could tell you now to take care of you but I haven't figured out how to do that yet myself, it's only been a few weeks. Take care! Liz

O, Pat, my heart aches for you - wishing you comfort and peace, and the sure knowledge that your love and caring made all the difference, all those years.
