 Unusual UTI symptom?
My husband recently had a UTI. 2 years ago when had the in-dwelling catheter and for about a year after he would get UTIs all the time and I knew what to look for: a change of smell or color in the urine, fever... About a month or 2 ago I noticed when I emptied the catheter bag (we use condom catheters) in the morning that the urine flow was slow and the consistency was more like syrup than water. Well, he went on Cephalexin(sp) for his UTI and by the end of the dosage the urine had changed consistency again, now flows like water. Has anyone experienced 'thickened' urine as a symptom of infection? Sher

 Re: Unusual UTI symptom?
Yes. I was confounded by this also. Was used to the dark, odoriferous kind.

Yes, this seems to be less common. To what do you attribute the fact that the UTIs have lessened for your husband?

 Re: Unusual UTI symptom?
Another UTI question--Is it possible to have an UTI without blood in the urine or a fever? Thanks, Kathy

You can get a neat little sterile container from your druggest and have it ready for when you suspect an infection. It is easy to catch the specimen in midstream and give it to your health care provider. dorthea

 Re: Unusual UTI symptom?
Robin, I'm really not sure why the UTIs are fewer now, other than the possibility that not all of the bacteria was killed each time he was treated. He was admitted to the hospital early last year and put on several different antibiotics for a particularly bad UTI and since that time we had only one to deal with prior to this most recent one. That's the only guess I have. Sher
