Pennsylvania TV news segments on LBD
Channel 8 (WGAL), a TV station in Pennsylvania (York, Lancaster, Harrisburg) had two segments on LBD last Friday 6/24/11.
This segment is about "Lewy body disease, also called Lewy body dementia":
http://www.wgal.com/video/28351456/detail.html A patient with LBD is interviewed as is his daughter. And a neurologist is interviewed.
In the segment, bacopa is described as "one promising treatment" -- an herb grown in Asia. Dr. Thyagarajan Subramanian ("Dr. Su") from Penn State Hershey says that this compound needs to be tested. I remember hearing about bacopa at a Parkinson's support group meeting a couple of years ago; an Ayurvedic practitioner talked about its use. There must be many forms of this plant because I have a flowering version in my garden.
The second segment is about a News 8 anchor named Kim Lemon whose husband John has LBD:
http://www.wgal.com/news/28344636/detail.html Kim is taking several months off to care for her husband and be with her family. Kim talks about the diagnosis -- from PD to Parkinson's Disease with dementia to, "the accurate diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia." (Well, PDD is LBD so I don't understand the distinction.) Kim started a caregiver support group.
