MY FIL IS FINALLY AT PEACE
Hi all, I had a phone call late last night at 11.30pm to tell me that my FIL had died peacefully at 10.15pm.
Myself and my husband had seen him the previous evening, I knew when I saw him that the time was close. I rubbed his forehead and we talked to him about being a good father, thanking him for things he had done for us, telling him that we loved him and that we were going to miss him. I told him that we knew it was nearly time for him, and said that he was free to go if he wanted to, told him we would be ok and look after each other. We told him not to be frightened, just relax and think of all the people who he would be meeting up with soon. Im so pleased we went that night, he couldnt respond to us by talking, his eyes moved and when my husband thanked him for being a good dad, my FIL, im sure tried to smile. I get great comfort from the fact that I am sure he knew it was us and that he could hear what we were saying to him. It was a very emotional goodbye, but I knew this was going to be the last time we saw him.
The nursing staff at the hospital were wonderful, made sure that my FIL was comfortable all the time, we was being turned every 2 hours as he had developed bed sores. Though he wasnt eating anything, they gave him water to sip and used mouth swabs to keep his mouth nice.
I would like to thank everyone on the forum for the advice and support you have given me, at times you guys were the only ones I could talk to. I leave you with best wishes for your own situations with your LO's. Love Lee xx

Re: MY FIL IS FINALLY AT PEACE
Lee - thanks for letting us know. It is comforting to know you spent some of his final hours with him and he is no longer suffering. I'm sure you will miss him a lot, just like I miss my dad a lot too. It is hard but knowing they are no longer suffering gives some relief to the pain of losing a LO. Take care, Lynn
