Post High Cholesterol/Head Injuries
I just read an article where the researcher believed there might be a connection between high cholesterol levels, head injuries/brain irritation and genes that might predict Alzheimer's.

I was wondering how many of your LOs had either high cholesterol and or a head injury. Chris had high cholesterol and uncontrolled hypertension for years. He also had 2 head injuries, just a few years apart.

Here is the link to the article: ... eimer.html

~~Debra, 52, wife to Chris, 64 DX Vascular Dementia 9/10; Alz 10 or 11/2010; Pseudo Dementia 01/11; LBD in 03/11..Was at home until 4/29, 2011, now in a Alz fac./dementia unit.

The article was discussed earlier in this thread:

To answer your question, my husband did have high cholesterol and also malignant hypertension caused by some kind of brainstem encephalopathy which probably involved 'brain injury' of a sort. He was in the ICU for a couple of weeks. This was in 1985-86.

Pat [68] married to Derek [84] for 38 years; husband dx PDD/LBD 2005, probably began 2002 or earlier; late stage and in a SNF as of January 2011. Hospitalized 11/2/2013 and discharged to home Hospice. Passed away at home on 11/9/2013.

Coy had a head injury in 1994.

High cholesterol is/was a strong family trait.

Jeanne, 68 cared for husband Coy, 86. RBD for 30+ years; LDB since 2003, Coy at home, in early stage, until death in 2012

My husband had high cholesterol for years but no head injuries I am aware of. Can we add this question: Who had exposure to toxic chemicals? In my husband's case it was Agent Orange in Viet Nam, but there are many here that have since been takekn off shelves. Anyone? Sher

Sher (53) married 29 years to Ken (66) who was diagnosed with LBD in 2008, but it most likely began many years before.

My husband had exposure to Carbon tet when he was in the military. They sat in small closed rooms and boiled carbon tet to clean electrical contacts. There are others as well, but my cousin would know their names. He and Del used to talk about it when they would get together. Carbon tet has now been linked to Parkinsinism.

Interesting question. Thank you. Nan

Frank grew up on farm where many pesticides were used, we've heard there may be a connection to PD. Many headers into cast iron, but nothing that ever knocked him out.

Gerry 67, cared for Frank 71, married 49 yrs; dx 2004, passed away October 26, 2011.
