 Sudden excessive sleeping
My MIL is suddenly sleeping all the time. She had been getting up around 9:30 am and staying up for the day, occasionally dozing in her chair. All of a sudden she is in bed all the time only getting up to go to the bathroom. She seemed really good right before this, actually talking to me and making sense (normally she doesn't speak except a rote platitude, such as "Thank you, love"). We watched a movie together and she commented on how much she enjoyed it. Then within a couple of hours - in bed. Should I be concerned or is this "normal" for LBD? If I try to get her to sit up in her chair, she'll go back to bed as soon as I am out of the room. She has never slept this much before, even when she was on hospice. Just when you think you are on even keel, something rocks the boat.

 Re: Sudden excessive sleeping
If she's sleeping 22+ hours/day, this is a strong indication that she's in the final stages. Less is normal for LBD.

 Re: Sudden excessive sleeping
My dad started sleeping almost all the time a few months before he died. I think Robin is right on with "less is normal for LBD" and "final stages". Lynn

 Re: Sudden excessive sleeping
Sleeping many hours is indeed the new normal for latter stages of LBD

 Re: Sudden excessive sleeping
My MIL sleeps from 7:30 pm to about 9:30 or 10:30 am, then she goes back to bed around 11 am. She'll get up for lunch and then back to bed off and on until 5 pm. Usually. Increasingly she is sleeping through dinner and through the night. Hard to awaken for meds. No day is the same. Not 22+ hours yet.
