Post Re: Talking in numbers/colors
We function in a mostly logical world, and when it isn't logical, we try to make it so. Chaos is confusing and time consuming and I think humans try to simplify and make sense of things, which is probably linked to some survival instinct.
So, when dealing with people with dementia, or mental illness, we try to reason, explain, act rationally with a person who does not have the skills to be rational and logical. It makes me want to tear my hair out!
That's my philosophical statement for the day! I know how hard it is and how hard you all are trying. Lynn

You're so right, Lynn! It is our nature to want to make order out of chaos. It doesn't always work.

My basement is in chaos. Maybe we should trade and deal with each other's chaos for a day or two!

I'll volunteer my office. But if you could see it you wouldn't want to trade. I really have to take a mental health day and tame the chaos because it is driving me crazy! The crazy caring for the demented would not work so well.

JeanneG - I find that care taking is so tiring that even the thought of sorting paper clutter is too challenging for me. I try to put away everything that has to do with taxes... but a dreadful amount of incoming mail just goes into the 'in' box and never comes out. I can't bring myself to throw things away immediately because I think I'll want to see that again. I ought to know that I won't.

I also think I'm going to read magazines. I start and my eyes glaze over.

If you wait long enough, half the stuff in the inbox will be outdated and you can throw it out! I used to work with a guy who followed that logic! Sometimes it works for you, sometimes not. Probably don't want to mess with the IRS, for instance.

I used to have a mending basket labeled "To be Outgrown." :P Same principle, I suppose.

Love it Jeanne! Who even thinks about mending anymore? I remember my grandmother darning socks. When's the last time you even heard that phrase?!

that's the way I darn socks. When they get holes in the heels way before I think they should, I shake my finger at them and say "darn" as I toss them in the trash.
